Are you tired of feeling like you’re fighting your autoimmune condition alone?
As a woman with an autoimmune condition, you know that managing your health can be a challenging and often isolating journey.
One of the key elements of a successful and sustainable health creation strategy is the importance of a caring community to motivate and inspire you.
When you have the support of like-minded individuals who understand your struggles, you are more likely to stick to your health goals and make positive changes in your life.
“The power of community to create health is far greater than any physician, clinic or hospital.”
Mark Hyman
You don’t have to do this alone
Many years ago I ran a support group for women with children who have eczema.
This was in response to the intense isolation that I felt from having to deal with my daughter’s health issues. My family was super helpful and supportive, yet I felt that as her primary caregiver, I was all alone in so many ways.
I was the one deciding about her diet, products that she should or should not be using, and what would aggravate and what would help her eczema. This went on for years and it was simply exhausting!
Based on my own experience, I decided to host and run a support group for mothers like me whose children also had severe eczema. It provided all of us with the encouragement and support we needed during the most difficult times.
Most importantly, it made us feel less alone and isolated.
The thing is, I had always wished that there had been someone to hold my hand during our most difficult times.
Making a difficult journey more bearable
The conventional medical approach often focuses on managing symptoms with medication, rather than addressing the underlying causes of your condition.
A Functional Medicine approach is about figuring out the root causes of disease. This approach is based on the belief that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. And as we remove the obstacles in the way of the healing process and provide the body with all the nutrients that it needs, we give our bodies a fighting chance to heal themselves.
This way you can address the actual root causes of your autoimmune condition and take steps toward healing.
At the same time, one of the key elements of a successful Functional Medicine approach is the importance of a caring community to motivate and inspire you.
As you may have realised, figuring out and removing triggers in your food and environment means that you need to make the necessary changes.
But it’s hard to create new healthy habits and make changes and then stick to them.
The good news is that when you have the support of like-minded individuals who understand your struggles, you are more likely to stick to your health goals and make positive changes in your life.
In addition, a caring community can help you stay motivated and inspired by providing a sense of purpose and belonging.
You see, when you feel that you are part of something larger than yourself, you are more likely to stay committed to your health goals and work towards a healthier, more vibrant life.
A caring community is a powerful tool
I find that a community is often a missing factor for many people who are trying to heal from chronic conditions.
For a long time I was not really aware of the importance of having such a community to support my own coaching clients.
I have taken baby steps over the years to create space for women to get together and have succeeded in some ways and failed in others. Through it all, I have learned what has worked and what has not and that is helping me now.
I have created a free community for women with autoimmune conditions and other conditions to get the support and encouragement that they are not getting anywhere else.

There are some specific ways that you can benefit from being a part of such a caring community:
- Emotional Support: Living with a chronic illness can be emotionally challenging. A caring community can provide a safe space where individuals can share their fears, frustrations, and successes without judgment. Knowing that others understand and can empathize with your struggles can be incredibly comforting and can help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.
2. Practical Advice: A caring community can also provide practical advice on how to manage your symptoms, navigate the healthcare system, and find helpful resources. Other members may have found success with certain lifestyle changes or treatments and can share their experiences and insights with the group.
3. Accountability: A caring community can help hold you accountable for your health goals. Sharing your goals with others can help you stay committed and motivated. Plus, having a group of people who care about your well-being can help you stay on track and make positive changes in your life.
The bottom line is that a caring community can provide emotional support, practical advice, and accountability to individuals with autoimmune and other chronic conditions who are looking to improve their health through functional medicine.
But keep in mind that to benefit from a caring community, you need to be specific about what you need, be open to receiving help, offer help in return, and seek out support groups that understand your unique health situation
