How to get the answers that you want without having to wait for your symptoms to show
The biggest reason that many people keep getting more and more sick is because they are waiting for symptoms to worsen enough after significant damage has occurred to get a diagnosis.
This is actually the opposite of what we should be doing.
Because waiting for the damage to continue means that the disease continues to progress. And then we end up getting a fix that means a lifetime of medications and treatments. This happens as the tissue and organ damage has become quite extensive.
However, chronic diseases do NOT develop overnight.
Instead, chronic diseases develop over long periods of time and stem from a variety of causes, each expressed in its own set of symptoms.
And waiting until major symptoms appear before investigating the root cause of a health condition is counterproductive.
Don’t wait for symptoms to worsen
But I completely understand why you may feel this way.
You see, we have been led to believe that worsening, obvious symptoms are needed to get a diagnosis and treatment from doctors. But this delays truly addressing the problem. Because seeking answers at the first subtle signs can uncover core imbalances and guide natural healing before extensive damage occurs.
This is because, minor symptoms like fatigue, mood changes and mild pain are the body’s way of letting us know that something is off.
So instead of suppressing our immune system in the case of autoimmune conditions, we need to be taking a different approach.
In fact, you may have come across others with chronic conditions including autoimmune disease whose disease continues to progress over time as they develop more and more symptoms inspite of being on medications.
Why you cannot ignore the wisdom of your body
It is important for you to understand that the medications only treat the dominant symptoms but do nothing to address the root causes of the chronic illness.
And unfortunately, the outcome of this approach is not reversal of disease and good health but rather a diminished quality of life.
So you keep taking one medication, then another to deal with the side effect of the first. After a while other symptoms develop and you take medications to bring them under control. And all this while, the disease continues to progress and you are on multiple medications for the rest of your life.
So does this mean that you accept the inevitable?
Absolutely not!
You have a CHOICE here to take a different approach.
One that allows you to tune into the messages that your body is sending you in the form of symptoms whether or not you have a diagnosis.
In fact, my coaching programme is based on the unique “BODY WISE HEALING” framework that I have developed over years of coaching people with chronic conditions. It allows my clients to pay attention to what their body is trying to tell them by sending messages via symptoms.
Being guided by your symptoms (even minor ones)
If you want to free yourself from the over dependence on medications and the medical system means that you need to allow yourself to be led by your inner guidance system that includes your symptoms.
You can do this by tracking symptoms diligently, especially on good days, so that you can establish a baseline to compare to during flare ups.
Over time you will learn how to identify shifts early so that you can modify your diet, lifestyle and use gentle practices like meditation before these symptoms escalate.
This approach teaches you how to to tune into the language of your body and see all the ways that your physical, emotional and spiritual health are all interconnected.
The spectrum of autoimmunity
Those with autoimmune disorders often develop additional ones over time.
That’s because the immune system can create inflammation and antibodies that attack tissues long before major symptoms arise. This damage continues and silently builds over time. In illnesses like chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, symptom-free periods are common, but the disease still progresses unseen. This allows rapid worsening when symptoms reappear.
The development of autoimmunity happens in stages where progressively there is a loss of health foundations. In some cases, there would have been some minor symptoms due to dysfunction (such as headaches, bloating, constipation, stomach ache) but it would have been masked by taking medications such as pain killers. So these symptoms are often ignored by us and by our doctors because they don’t yet meet a diagnostic threshold.
And then when there is enough tissue damage that occurs, we finally get a diagnosis seemingly “out of the blue”!
I have written more about this in an earlier post and you can read it here.
So rather than view the absence of symptoms as a chance to “enjoy” good days, use this time to support your body’s innate healing abilities. Take the time to pay attention to what your body needs in terms of support. Self-care practices, rest, body awareness exercises and learning what your body needs can happen when you have the energy.
This builds your healing toolkit for future flare ups.
Tune into the “gift” of your symptoms from within
Our bodies are always communicating through subtle signals – a gift that you need to pay attention to.
You can do this by keeping journals, tracking your symptoms, engaging in gentle movement or stillness practices since all of these help develop your inner listening skills. This allows you to tune you into your body’s unique rhythms, balances and needs.
So don’t underestimate your power to heal just because tests are unclear or symptoms are absent.
Remember, you get to choose how your healing journey.
We all have choices. And choosing to listen to your body’s whispers before your symptoms becomes a scream is key to taking charge of your health. This allows you to meet imbalances early with lifestyle adjustments and gentle care.
