Many people are so focused on their diet, supplements, medications, and treatments that they completely miss out on these softer aspects of long term health creation.
If you take the view that you are being deprived of these foods then that’s what it will feel like. And even if you get plenty of substitutes or alternative options, you will not be able to enjoy your trip.
This extremely difficult phase in our lives taught me that healing goes beyond managing your symptoms and is not only about physical health. It’s an emotional, spiritual and physical healing that starts from deep inside of you.
The good news is that you do not need to be at “war” with your body.
Having an autoimmune condition doesn’t mean your body has given up on you! Living with a chronic illness means that your body is trying its best to adapt to the environment you are asking it to live in.
You need to remember that the immune system has been designed to be very, very strong to counter any kind of threat and keep you alive. It is the ability to regulate the immune system and keep it in balance is what determines an appropriate versus over the top response.
We forget that our healing is our responsibility and goes much beyond the medication and treatment options available. When you are able to go beyond your disease diagnosis and reconnect with yourself as a “whole” person, it becomes much easier to start trusting your body. And as you become more tuned in to what your body needs, you are able to support and nourish it much more effectively.
I have been meaning to write a post on all the things that I am grateful for in my life and I find that the beginning of this new year is a good time to do just that.
